Keep your puppy protected with a vaccination plan.
At Van Isle Veterinary Hospital, we believe the best (and in many cases the most important) medicine is prevention! That is why it is our goal to help you get your puppy’s health off to the right start. Due to underdeveloped immune systems, puppies are at the greatest risk of contracting a serious and sometimes deadly disease such as Canine Distemper or Parvovirus. To help your puppy build a strong immune system, we recommend starting their vaccines at 8-weeks-old.
We offer Canine Distemper, Parvovirus and Adenovirus as a core “combo” vaccine as well as rabies, Bordetella (kennel cough), Leptospirosis and Lyme disease.
It is important to properly vaccinate your puppy to reduce the risk of contracting a serious disease. Due to their underdeveloped immune systems, puppies are more prone to contract a virus vs. an adult dog. Vaccinating too early, missing or significantly delaying a booster vaccine, can impede your puppy’s ability to build the proper antibodies required to fight viruses.
We recommend that puppies receive their first core vaccination at 8-weeks-old, followed by vaccine boosters at 12 and 16 weeks of age.
Here at Van Isle, we strive to make your puppy’s first visit as stress free as possible. There is always a friendly smile and a pocket full of treats waiting for your puppy at our front counter. Your veterinarian will perform a physical exam to access your puppy’s overall health including the eyes, ears, teeth, heart and to check for any abnormalities. Your veterinarian is a wealth of knowledge and a great resource for nutritional recommendations, parasite prevention and training recommendations. They will also educate you on your puppies growing needs as well as what to expect during the first year of your puppy’s life.
Your puppy will typically require three sets of vaccinations however this can all depend on the age of your pup at the time of first vaccination. As the cost can vary depending on your puppy’s age and lifestyle, it is recommended to give us a call at 250-334-8400 to obtain an accurate quote.
Yes, we are happy to see puppies for their health checks and first vaccines! We have a designated area for examining puppies, so they do not have to enter the main hospital and have plenty of space. We give each puppy a thorough health check, appropriate vaccinations, and microchips if requested. We then issue a vaccine certificate and a health certificate, which can be passed on when a puppy goes to a new home.
